Secure the strong legal defence you deserve
Writing An Apology Letter
Firstly, the letters should be addressed as follows:
To The Presiding Magistrate or Presiding Judge
At: Name the specific court i.e. Parramatta Local Court
Your Honour,
General topics to cover:
1. Your age, occupation and family circumstances etc.
2. You may express your insight into the offending and the shame or embarrassment you feel and whether you understand the seriousness of the offending. Do not make excuses for your behaviour.
3. Outline the steps you have taken towards your rehabilitation i.e. completed drug rehabilitation programs or the Traffic Offenders Program.
4. Outline how you support your family and why they rely upon you. It’s important to express whether they are aware of the offending and whether any steps have been taken towards future rehabilitation.
5. Explain why you will not re-offend and the steps you have taken to ensure this. The court will want to be assured that you will not find yourself re-offending.
6. In some cases, you may be seeking a No Conviction Result, and it would be important to outline how a conviction will impact your future aspirations. It is important to support these assertions with evidence, if possible, i.e. letter from employer or terms of employment confirming your termination if convicted.
Yours faithfully,
Sign and date your letter.
