The criminal offence of unauthorised manufacture of firearms is constituted a criminal offence pursuant to Section 50A (1) of the Firearms Act 1996 (NSW), which states that a person who manufactures a firearm is guilty of an offence unless the person is authorised by a licence or permit to manufacture the firearm.
Section 50A (2) of the Firearms Act 1996 (NSW) constitutes it a criminal offence for a person to manufacture a pistol or prohibited firearm unless the person is authorised by a licence or permit to manufacture the pistol or prohibited firearm.
WHAT IS THE PENALTY FOR THE CRIMINAL OFFENCE OF UNAUTHORISED MANUFACTURE OF FIREARMS?
Section 50A (1) of the Firearms Act 1996 (NSW) prescribes a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment for a person convicted of the criminal offence of manufacturing a firearm without being authorised by a licence or permit to manufacture the firearm.
Section 50A (2) of the Firearms Act 1996 (NSW) prescribes a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment for a person convicted of the criminal offence of manufacturing a pistol or prohibited firearm without being authorised by a licence or permit to manufacture the pistol or prohibited firearm.
MAN CHARGED WITH FIREARMS OFFENCES AFTER ALLEGED 3D PRINTING
A 29-year-old man has been charged with the criminal offence of unauthorised manufacture of firearms after allegedly 3D printing over 100 firearm parts and two completed firearms in the Blue Mountains area.
NSW Police stated that Strike Force Temarang officers have been investigating the manufacturing and importation of 3D printed firearms and firearm parts, in addition to software to assist in 3D computers and other privately manufactured firearms.
Strike Force detectives executed a search warrant at a Blackheath home on 18 June 2025 and allegedly found two completed 3D printed firearms, which were a longarm and a pistol, as well as more than 100 various firearm parts such as triggers, slides, receivers and magazines.
Further to the criminal offence of manufacturing a firearm without licence/permit, the accused was also charged with manufacturing a pistol without licence/permit, possessing digital blueprint for the manufacture of firearms and intentionally importing prohibited tier two goods.
He was granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear in Penrith Local Court on 15 August 2025.
